Piedras consists of three elements: the dance component interpreted by the dancer and choreographer Christopher Williams (USA), the musical component by composer Ivan Jiménez (Colombia), and the visual concept by the artist Rosario López (Colombia). Sculptural set pieces by Ms. López will be augmented by projected digital animation sequences by video artist Roberto Herrera (Colombia). The music will consist of song settings of five poems by the author Rusty Morrison (USA) to be sung live by the soprano Juanita Delgado (Colombia). The piece is approximately 25 minutes in length.
This project is based on the phenomenon of gravity in relation with the elements of the real world. A character is on the staged, he makes a series of movements in harmony with the objects in place. These objects are glued to the floor by the gravity force that is exerted on them. The gravity operates inversely from the way nature has made an effort to explain us. It is no longer a force that attracts the objects towards the center of the world, but on the contrary a force above of our heads. In this sense our character is not walking on the scene, he is being crushed down.
